CLARK FREEPORT, Philippines — The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has awarded the detailed engineering design contract for Clark International Airport’s (CRK) second runway, marking a major step in expanding the gateway’s capacity and resilience.
Following a competitive bidding process, BCDA tapped Schema Konsult Inc. and South Korea-based Yooshin Engineering Corp. for the Php206.9-million project.
The design phase is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027, with construction bidding to follow.
The new runway is projected to be operational by late 2029.
BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang said the additional runway will serve as a backup to the main strip, ensuring uninterrupted operations during disruptions and boosting CRK’s competitiveness as a logistics and aviation hub.
“This development will benefit Clark and the wider Central Luzon region by enhancing connectivity for locators and businesses, while also generating more employment opportunities for local communities,” Bingcang said.
The project aligns with the Marcos administration’s push to modernize transport infrastructure and strengthen the Luzon Economic Corridor.
CRK, which served 2.75 million passengers in 2025, is also seeing expansions from global logistics giants UPS and FedEx.
BCDA, in partnership with the Department of Transportation, is advancing additional airside infrastructure at CRK, including taxiways, aprons, and utilities, to accommodate more aircraft movements and improve turnaround times.
