Police seized 43 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves valued at P5.16 million and arrested a man during a patrol operation in Puguis, La Trinidad, on Nov. 5, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO CAR) said.

In a news release, PRO CAR said La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (MPS) personnel spotted a man transferring boxes between two parked vehicles while conducting patrols in the area.

Police approached the man for questioning after noticing a tubular-shaped object protruding from the side of one of the boxes, according to the police account.

The man allegedly attempted to flee upon noticing the officers but was apprehended.

A subsequent inspection yielded 42 tubular containers holding approximately 42 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves from the first vehicle, with an estimated street value of P5.04 million, the police said.

Officers also recovered a sack containing another kilogram of dried marijuana leaves, valued at P120,000, from the second vehicle.

The total estimated value of the seized drugs was P5.16 million, based on figures provided by the police.

The arrested man is expected to face charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PRO CAR Regional Director Brig. Gen. Noel B. Vallo commended La Trinidad MPS personnel for the operation and urged residents to report suspicious activities to authorities.

Vallo said the regional police force would sustain its campaign against illegal drugs across the Cordillera region.
