LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Benguet, led by Vice Governor Ericson “Tagel” Felipe, has issued a press release stating its favorable review of an ordinance from the municipality of Itogon regulating the manufacture, sale, and distribution of police and military uniforms and insignias.
During its regular session on January 13, 2025, the SP endorsed Itogon Ordinance No. 162, Series of 2024, which prohibits the unauthorized sale, manufacture, and distribution of Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) uniforms, insignias, and other related items.
The ordinance requires businesses engaged in these activities to secure a certificate of conformity or distributorship from the PNP or AFP.
The measure aims to prevent the misuse of police and military uniforms and insignias that could mislead the public.
The ordinance applies to all business establishments in Itogon, including physical stores, online platforms, and other digital channels.
Violators will face penalties of up to a ₱2,500 fine or imprisonment of up to 30 days, or both, at the discretion of the court.
Additionally, businesses failing to obtain the necessary certification, maintain transaction records, or verify buyers’ proof of authorization will be issued notices of violation.
Repeated violations may lead to administrative actions by the Office of the Mayor through the Business, Permits, and Licensing Officer.
These actions could include suspension of operations, revocation of business permits, or closure of the establishment.
The SP issued its favorable review based on the recommendation of the Committee on Public Safety and Order.
