BAGUIO CITY — The Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) said it had restored 82.74% of electricity service across Baguio and Benguet as of noon Monday, as crews continued round-the-clock work to repair infrastructure damaged by days of strong winds and rain.
In Baguio City, 92.33% of consumers had their electricity restored, BENECO said. Of the city’s 129 barangays, 127 had regained power.
Across BENECO’s entire Baguio-Benguet service area, 216 of 269 barangays had power restored, according to the utility.
The cooperative said damage had reached about 1.7 million pesos and was expected to increase while weather conditions remained unfavorable.
BENECO reported damage to 28 poles, seven transformers and other protective devices across its service area. In Baguio City, eight poles and one transformer were damaged, it said.
Most feeders were down during the height of the power disruption, BENECO said.
The utility said restoration crews were continuing to work on damaged facilities, with repairs being carried out according to an established priority system.
Backbone lines are given priority, followed by lateral lines leading to individual households, BENECO said.
Hospitals and critical government installations and agencies are also prioritized during restoration.
The outages followed days of intermittent strong winds and rain in Baguio and Benguet amid the weather disturbances affecting Northern Luzon.
Some areas experienced brownouts lasting more than a day.
BENECO said restoration work was continuing as crews addressed damage to its distribution facilities.
The cooperative did not give a definitive timetable for full restoration, and further progress will depend in part on weather and site conditions.
