MANILA, Philippines — Global oral-care brand usmile is stepping up its presence in the Philippines, promoting preventive dental care through smart devices and other products as it seeks to encourage Filipinos to address oral health concerns before they require treatment.
The company said in a July 27 statement that its approach centers on “prevention over treatment,” with technology and oral-care products designed to help consumers establish more consistent daily dental routines.
The push comes as oral health remains a concern in the Philippines.
The Department of Health has cited high levels of tooth decay and gum disease in the country, according to information referenced by usmile in its statement.
Usmile cited Department of Health figures saying 92.4% of Filipinos have tooth decay and 78% have gum disease.
The company said it aims to make preventive oral care more accessible by offering products intended for regular use, while encouraging consumers to seek professional dental care when necessary.
From toothpaste to smart dental devices
Founded in 2015, usmile said it has more than 86 million users across 30 countries and has developed its products through collaborations with dentists, oral-health experts and research institutions.
Its Philippine product range includes electric and smart oral-care devices, water flossers, dental floss picks and toothpaste products marketed for specific oral-care needs.
Among its toothpaste offerings is Optical White, which the company said sold more than 100,000 units in a single month.
Other products in the toothpaste range include Strength White, Fresh White and Repair White.
The company said its products are intended to address everyday concerns such as plaque buildup and gum health.
Such claims are based on the company’s product positioning and should not be taken as a substitute for advice or treatment from licensed dental professionals.
Usmile said it has gained traction in the Philippine toothpaste category on TikTok Shop since its official local launch in February.
The company also pointed to its performance in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, where it said it had secured the top position in premium oral care and received the 2026 EPIC Award for Breakthrough Brand in E-commerce.
A shift toward prevention
Usmile’s Philippine expansion reflects a broader effort by oral-care companies to position daily dental routines as part of preventive health rather than an activity undertaken only when problems emerge.
For consumers, dentists generally remain the appropriate source for diagnosing and treating dental disease, while products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and flossing devices are tools for maintaining daily oral hygiene.
Usmile said it wants to help Filipinos adopt those habits earlier and more consistently.
“We aim to empower more Filipinos to take a proactive approach to their oral health,” the company said, describing its Philippine strategy as part of its broader prevention-focused approach.
For a country where smiling is often associated with warmth and social connection, the company said maintaining oral health can also contribute to everyday confidence and quality of life.
The company’s expansion, however, comes with the broader challenge facing the Philippine oral-health sector: turning awareness of dental problems into sustained preventive habits and regular professional care.
