BAGUIO CITY, March 29 — Hundreds of Roman Catholic faithful gathered Sunday at the Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral, marking Palm Sunday with a solemn yet vibrant display of devotion that signaled the start of Holy Week.

Worshippers filled the cathedral grounds early, clutching intricately woven palm fronds as clergy led the traditional blessing rites commemorating Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

The ceremony transitioned into a Holy Mass attended by a diverse crowd of devotees, many of whom stood under the midday heat.

Despite the weather, participants remained steadfast, raising their palm fronds in unison — a symbolic gesture of joy, humility and enduring faith.

Church leaders emphasized the spiritual significance of the occasion, describing Palm Sunday as both a celebration and a call to reflection.

The observance marks the beginning of Holy Week, inviting the faithful to engage in repentance, forgiveness and renewal.

Each movement of the blessed palm leaves carried deeper meaning for attendees, representing not only biblical tradition but also a collective hope for peace within families and communities.

Palm Sunday remains one of the most attended religious events in the Philippines, underscoring the enduring role of faith in Filipino culture.
