BAGUIO CITY — The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) reported no major untoward incidents during the New Year’s celebrations as the city welcomed 2026, citing strong community cooperation and sustained police operations.

More than 1,000 police personnel were deployed in key areas across the city during the holiday period, while authorities strictly enforced the firecracker ban under City Ordinance No. 53, Series of 2009.

From December 2025 through the New Year celebrations, police confiscated 13,528 illegal pyrotechnic devices worth an estimated ₱118,755.

Only three firecracker-related incidents were recorded, down from 10 cases last year.

The incidents involved two residents of Irisan, aged 25 and 45, who sustained first-degree burns. Both were treated and discharged from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Police also reported one incident involving the illegal discharge of a firearm along Kisad Road. Authorities immediately responded and are continuing the investigation.

As part of its enforcement campaign, the BCPO held a ceremonial destruction of confiscated pyrotechnic devices on December 27, 2025, at its headquarters.

The activity was led by BCPO Director Police Colonel Ruel D. Tagel and Deputy Director for Operations Police Lieutenant Colonel Allan K. Sison.

A total of 5,696 assorted illegal pyrotechnic devices valued at ₱35,160 were destroyed during the ceremony, which was attended by representatives from the local government, the Public Order and Safety Division, and members of the media.

BCPO said the activity highlighted the dangers of illegal fireworks and reinforced public awareness on safety and compliance with local ordinances as Baguio City entered 2026.
