BAGUIO CITY — Live music now greets shoppers as SM City Baguio opens its spaces to local buskers, transforming routine mall visits into shared cultural experiences.
Across the mall, performers provide a steady soundtrack that blends entertainment with community engagement.
From casual strolls to daylong visits, guests encounter musicians whose performances add a personal, emotional layer to the retail environment.
At the Sky Terrace, the mall’s open-air space overlooking the city, audiences gather informally as buskers perform familiar songs spanning multiple genres.
The setting encourages spontaneous interaction, with listeners pausing to relax, watch, and connect through music.
Among the regular performers are Ms. Cita and Ruben Fontanilla, known as the Ebony and Ivory duo.
The husband-and-wife team has performed together since the early 1980s, bringing decades of experience shaped by international shows across Asia and the Middle East.
Their repertoire ranges from western and country to jazz, bossa nova and classic ballads.
After returning to Baguio in 2020, the duo turned to busking and has since become a fixture at the mall. Since 2022, they have continued sharing their music with a new generation of listeners.
Also part of the lineup is Kash, a Baguio-based solo artist known for his performances along Session Road.
With more than a decade of experience, he has built a following through versatile sets that adapt to different audiences and venues.
His busking career has led to larger engagements, allowing music to become both his livelihood and creative outlet.
For performers, the mall offers more than a stage. It provides a steady platform to sustain their craft while engaging with a broader audience.
“Malaking bagay po sa amin ang mabigyan ng pagkakataon na makapag-perform dito sa SM. Kahit po may edad na kami, nabibigyan pa rin kami ng pagkakataon na maipakita ang talento namin at mapasaya ang mga tao,” Ms. Cita said.
SM City Baguio said the initiative reflects a broader effort to support local talent while creating meaningful experiences for visitors.
By integrating live performances into public spaces, the mall positions itself as a venue not only for commerce but also for cultural expression.
Through these performances, music becomes a shared experience—linking artists and audiences, and turning everyday moments into something more memorable.
