BAGUIO CITY — Camp John Hay’s management assured the public of safety inside the mountain resort following last week’s electric shuttle accident that killed one passenger and injured six others.
John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC) President and CEO Manjit Singh Reandi said Monday the camp remains safe and that a comprehensive review is underway to prevent similar incidents.
“The camp is safe. We don’t know of any other way to explain the safety, but for you to see for yourself,” Reandi told reporters.
The free e-shuttle service was suspended after the Jan. 16 crash at Scout Hill.
Police investigators attributed the incident to human error, with the driver now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.
Reandi said the suspension will remain in place until all operational factors are checked.
He added that JHMC will review the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative’s (CBSTC) arrangements with its drivers to ensure those assigned to the John Hay EV bus loop are fit to work.
Management has also conducted safety reviews of its own facilities as part of broader preventive measures.
The EV shuttle service is operated by CBSTC, whose employment practices are under review to ensure driver fitness and accountability.
The EV loop bus, launched in July 2025, provides free rides within Camp John Hay to ease traffic congestion and reduce emissions.
