BAGUIO CITY – The City Government of Baguio officially ushered in the Christmas season with the lighting of the city’s 14-meter Christmas tree at the top of Session Road.
Inspired by stained-glass windows, this stunning centerpiece stands as a beacon of the season’s theme: “Faith, Hope, and Love.”
The creation of the tree was a collaborative effort involving the City Buildings Architecture Office, City Engineering Office, City Environment and Parks Management Office, and the City Administrator’s Office – Tourism and Special Events Division.
Meticulously constructed with fiberglass and steel, the tree is designed for both durability and longevity.
It features a dynamic lighting sequence that creates a captivating visual effect, drawing the attention of onlookers.
The entire project, from conceptualization to installation, was completed at a cost of ₱1.5 million, reflecting the city’s commitment to delivering a high-quality and memorable holiday display.
The design, inspired by the grandeur of stained-glass windows found in churches, was expertly executed by architect Nikki Monica Perez.
It beautifully encapsulates the essence of the Christmas season and thoughtfully reflects the core values of faith, hope, and love.
The tree also symbolizes Baguio’s unity and strength, serving as a reminder of the city’s enduring spirit and communal ties.
During the December 1, 2024 lighting ceremony, Mayor Benjamin Magalong emphasized the true meaning of the season in his opening message.
“As we light this sacred edifice tonight, may it serve as a reminder of the values of faith, hope, and love. Amidst all the celebrations, let us not forget the real reason for the season—the birth of Jesus,” the mayor said.
Following the ceremony, the annual lantern parade organized by Saint Louis University added another layer of joy and festivity to the evening.
This year’s Christmas tree is not just a holiday display but a reflection of Baguio’s enduring faith, hope, and love, made possible through the collective efforts of the city’s government offices and creative minds.
