MANILA — Watsons Philippines said it is expanding its partnership with Diabetes Philippines Inc. to widen access to free diabetes screening and preventive healthcare services, following the screening of nearly 5,000 people during a recent nationwide campaign.

The health, wellness and beauty retailer said the collaboration focuses on improving early detection of diabetes through community-based screening, patient education and pharmacist-led health support.

From April to May 2026, almost 5,000 individuals underwent screening for diabetes, hypertension and overweight or obesity under the STOP (Screen, Treat, Optimize, Promote) Diabetes Program, according to Watsons.

Nearly 70% of those screened were found to have at least one health risk factor or condition, highlighting the need for wider access to preventive healthcare services, it said.

The initiative builds on an earlier Diabetes Educator Program, which trained Watsons pharmacists to provide information and guidance on diabetes prevention and disease management.

The STOP Diabetes Program offers free diabetes screening, health assessments and medical consultations at selected Watsons stores nationwide, bringing preventive healthcare services closer to communities, the company said.

“Through our partnership with Diabetes Philippines, we have been able to bring free clinic services closer to communities, making diabetes screening, medical consultations, and health support more accessible to Filipinos,” Watsons Philippines Managing Director Danilo Chiong said in a statement.

Diabetes Philippines President Dr. Fatma Tiu said the collaboration has helped expand access to screening, education and preventive healthcare services, enabling more Filipinos to identify health risks early and seek appropriate intervention.

Watsons said Diabetes Philippines recently recognized the retailer for its support of the STOP Diabetes Program.

The company said it plans to further expand the partnership to reach more communities across the country and encourage more Filipinos to undergo preventive health screening.

Diabetes remains one of the Philippines’ major public health concerns, with many cases remaining undiagnosed until complications develop, underscoring the importance of early detection and regular health monitoring.
