Renewable energy provider SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) strengthened its commitment to sustainability by putting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles at the forefront of its 2025 Host Communities’ Forums held throughout September.

With the theme “Redefining Impact: ESG in Community Development,” the forums gathered more than 200 representatives from local government units (LGUs) and indigenous peoples’ organizations across Benguet, Ifugao, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya.

The sessions underscored how ESG frameworks can drive resilience and long-term growth in host communities.

Aboitiz Foundation Inc. Chief Operating Officer Mardi Mapa-Suplido delivered the keynote address, urging attendees to view ESG not merely as a corporate standard but as a practical approach to improving governance and community partnerships.

The first leg took place on September 3, 2025, in Itogon, Benguet, with around 80 participants.

A key highlight was the status update on SNAP’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiatives, including the 40-MW Binga BESS 1, the first in the Cordillera Administrative Region to achieve financial close and commence construction.

SNAP-Magat followed with two more forums on September 16 and 17 in Ifugao, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya, gathering an additional 150 community leaders.

Participants expressed optimism for sustained collaboration as SNAP reaffirmed its vision for inclusive progress.

“By embedding ESG principles into our projects and partnerships, we aim to build not just energy facilities but stronger, more inclusive, and future-ready communities,” said Joseph Yu, SNAP President and Chief Executive Officer.

Since 2008, SNAP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program has delivered over 1,200 community projects in infrastructure, governance, indigenous development, health, livelihood, education, and environmental protection—amounting to Php600 million in investments.

The Host Communities’ Forum is held annually to update stakeholders on SNAP’s operations and ensure active participation in shaping its CSR initiatives.
