SNAP highlights watershed conservation on World Environment Day

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) marked World Environment Day by highlighting its watershed and forest conservation programs across Northern Luzon, underscoring its long‑term commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development.

SNAP‑Magat’s Partnership in Uplifting Upland Natural Resources Livelihoods and Assets (PUNLA) has restored 34.3 hectares in Mayoyao and Banaue, reforested 100.44 hectares in Banaue and Hungduan, and established five hectares of agroforestry farms in Lagawe, mitigating an estimated 6,722 tons of soil erosion in Ifugao Province.

In Benguet, SNAP and the National Power Corporation maintain 13 kilometers of greenbelts and 12 kilometers of firebreaks annually under a technical cooperation agreement, supporting wildfire prevention and suppression.

SNAP‑Benguet also participates in NPC’s Adopt‑a‑Watershed Program, completing 42 hectares of its 50‑hectare reforestation commitment from 2022 to 2025.

SNAP further contributes through the Aboitiz Group’s flagship A‑PARK program, which establishes at least 20 hectares of agroforestry and reforestation areas annually.

Since 2008, SNAP has planted 487,775 seedlings across 408.34 hectares, achieving a 91 percent survival rate.

This year’s observance, anchored on the theme “Now for Climate”, included reservoir clean‑up drives in Ramon, Isabela, and Hug‑a‑Tree eco‑walk activities in Itogon and Bokod, Benguet.

Company officials said these initiatives reflect SNAP’s broader strategy to enhance watershed health, protect biodiversity, and sustain hydroelectric power generation.
