Two streets in Barangay Saint Joseph Village to be renamed

BAGUIO CITY – Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. has proposed an ordinance officially naming two unnamed streets in Saint Joseph Village Barangay, located at Puroks 5 and 6.

These streets will be named after General Prospero Olivas and Sinagued Cuyan, respectively.

The street located at Purok 5, with an estimated length of 280 meters, will be named General Prospero Olivas Street.

This will honor General Prospero Olivas, the former Commanding General of the Metrocom in 1971, who was instrumental in the initial construction of the street.

The remaining 30 meters were developed in 2009 under a barangay project funded by the Development Fund during the administration of Punong Barangay John P. Dongla.

The street located at Purok 6 along Balili River within the Sinagued Compound will be named Sinagued Street to honor Sinagued Cuyan, a member of the Ibaloi tribe, for her long-standing connection to the area. The street was constructed in 2021.

The ordinance will direct the City Engineering Office to install appropriate street signages that display the newly assigned names.

The CEO will also be tasked to ensure that the names of these streets are reflected on the official maps of Baguio City to help in official documentation and aid in navigation and location services.

The proposed ordinance has been approved on first reading by the Baguio City Council and referred to the Committee on Education, Culture, and Historical Research for review.
