SM Baguio aids 50 residents affected by Guisad Surong landslide
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — SM City Baguio provided essential goods to 50 residents affected by a landslide in Guisad Surong that killed 10 people, injured three and buried three houses, the city government said, as rains continued in the mountain city.
The landslide occurred at around 7 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2026, according to the city government.
SM City Baguio extended the assistance through its Operation Tulong Express initiative.
The landslide disrupted the daily lives of families in the area and left affected residents dealing with immediate needs following the incident.
SM City Baguio said the distribution of essential goods was intended to provide practical assistance as families cope with the aftermath and begin returning to their daily routines.
Among the evacuees affected by the landslide was Dan Cayabyab, who expressed gratitude for the assistance extended to affected families.
“Una sa lahat, malaking pasasalamat namin. Maliit o malaki man ang naitulong, on behalf sa lahat ng families na affected, tatanawin namin malaking utang na loob sa lahat ng tumulong,” Cayabyab said.
(“First of all, we are very thankful. Whether the help is small or big, on behalf of all the affected families, we will be deeply grateful to everyone who helped.”)
The assistance was part of Operation Tulong Express, one of SM Supermalls’ initiatives for communities affected by emergencies and other unexpected situations, the company said.
As rains continue in Baguio, residents, particularly those in areas vulnerable to landslides and other rain-related hazards, are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow advisories from local authorities.
