BAGUIO CITY – The City Government of Baguio is taking an innovative approach to its future by involving the general public in selecting its new vision statement.

This initiative is in line with the updating of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) 2024-2032 and the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2023-2028, which will guide the city’s physical and economic development for the next eight and five years, respectively.

The process of formulating the new vision began with a Vision Setting Workshop on June 27, 2023, followed by a Sectoral Vision Formulation event on August 2, 2023.

These activities engaged various sectors and stakeholders to ensure the vision aligns with the city’s aspirations.

The Sectoral Vision Formulation led to the development of six sectoral visions, which received approval from the City Development Council (CDC) during its meeting on August 3, 2023.

On August 31, 2023, a City Visioning Workshop brought together representatives from different sectors, resulting in the creation of several City vision statements.

These statements were presented to the CDC on October 20, 2023, where they were narrowed down to just two proposed City Visions.

The two vision options are:

  1. Vision 1 – BAGUIO 2043: WHERE CREATIVITY BLOOMS, SMART THRIVES AND LIVABILITY UNITES.
  2. Vision 2 – BAGUIO 2043 – A CREATIVE, INCLUSIVE, AND LIVABLE CITY.

The attendees at the visioning workshop included city officials, barangay captains, and leaders and representatives from Civil Society Organizations, People’s Council, Private Sector, Regional Line Agencies, and the academe.

To ensure broad public participation, the City Government has decided to involve the general public in the vision selection process through a voting system that will commence on November 4, 2023.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. on that date, the two finalized visions, along with their justifications, will be posted on the Public Information Office Facebook page.

People can cast their votes by registering their reaction to their preferred vision.

The voting period will continue until 11:59 p.m. on November 10, 2023.

It is important that individuals register their votes by reacting to the original post rather than shared posts.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong encouraged all Baguio City constituents to play a vital role in shaping the future of their beloved city.

He stated, “Please take a moment to review these proposed City Vision statements and cast your votes to express your choice.”
