Boundary dispute between Bineng and Banengbeng nears resolution

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The decades long issue on the delineation of boundaries between barangays Bineng in La Trinidad and Banengbeng in Sablan is nearing resolution with the Sangganuniang Panlalawigan (SP) showing receptivity with the initial agreement between the two barangays.

“I am positive this will be settled finally”, Benguet Vice Governor Ericson “Tagel” Felipe said, after the SP on Jan. 20, scheduled the matter for discussion by the Committee on the Whole, next week.

The vice governor chairs the Committee on the Whole.

Among his legislative agendas, the vice governor has consistently espoused for the settlement of boundary issues, saying delineation of political jurisdictions makes administration and the delivery of government services more efficient.

Both barangays in joint sessions, have come to terms in December last year.

Their resolutions have been submitted to their respective municipal councils.

The barangay resolutions have been endorsed to the SP for review and approval.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office prepared the sketch plan containing the boundaries of both barangays.

Felipe said the Committee on the Whole will hear some clarifications during deliberations next week and if the members are satisfied, the SP will approve the agreement between the two barangays in about two weeks.
