BAGUIO CITY — The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) has intensified efforts to safeguard the youth and uphold security during the 2025 National and Local Elections through increased police visibility and strict enforcement of the nationwide gun ban.

Recognizing Baguio as a premier educational hub, BCPO has strengthened police presence in schools and common student hangout areas.

Officers actively engage with students, discouraging them from carrying prohibited items linked to potential altercations and crimes.

Since January, police interventions have led to the confiscation of restricted objects such as knives, brass knuckles, golf balls, spike rings, vapes, and lighters—items voluntarily surrendered by students in cooperation with authorities.

This proactive approach aims to prevent conflicts and ensure a safe learning environment.

Simultaneously, BCPO remains steadfast in enforcing the Omnibus Election Code, particularly the nationwide gun ban implemented since January 12, 2025.

In just two months, 28 firearms have been confiscated, three of which were seized in police operations.

Fixed checkpoints have been strategically placed across the city, serving as deterrents against unauthorized firearm possession, while OPLAN “Bakal Sita” has been intensified in public areas to further prevent illegal weapons from circulating.

“Maintaining Baguio’s safe and orderly electoral culture is a shared duty. We call on all Baguio residents to strictly comply with the gun ban and report any suspicious activities that may compromise public safety,” BCPO City Director Ruel D. Tagel said.

He also emphasized the importance of creating a secure environment for students, allowing them to focus on learning and personal growth.

“A safe environment allows children to focus on learning and growth. We commend those who have cooperated and encourage all students to take an active role in keeping their schools safe,” PCOL Tagel said.

With the collaboration of students, parents, educators, and government units, BCPO remains committed to ensuring peace and order in Baguio—both in schools and during the upcoming elections.
