BAGUIO CITY — In two separate operations earlier this week, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) arrested two individuals for violating laws ranging from theft to gun ban infractions, underscoring intensified efforts to uphold public safety and election-related regulations in the city.
On May 6, police apprehended a 19-year-old male suspect for allegedly stealing motorcycle helmets along Jose Abad Santos Drive in Burnham-Legarda Barangay.
According to a report submitted to BCPO City Director PCOL Ruel D. Tagel, the suspect was caught red-handed removing a helmet from a parked motorcycle.
Shortly after his apprehension, another motorcycle owner arrived at the Mobile Patrol Unit to report a missing helmet — which was later recovered in the suspect’s possession.
In response to the incident, BCPO personnel were directed to maintain heightened visibility in areas prone to petty crimes.
“While we remain committed to public safety, we urge residents and visitors to remain vigilant and secure their belongings at all times,” PCOL Tagel said.
The police continue to enforce IMPLAN KALMANG Paglalakbay, a citywide initiative focused on ensuring a worry-free and secure experience for both residents and tourists.
Meanwhile, in an earlier operation on May 3, BCPO officers arrested a 35-year-old businessman in AZCKO Barangay for violating the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code.
The arrest came after a tip-off regarding a firearm inside the suspect’s vehicle.
Responding officers from Police Station 7 discovered a 9mm Glock 45 pistol loaded with ten live rounds during a routine check.
Although the weapon was registered, the suspect failed to present a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) and a Certificate of Authority from COMELEC — both mandatory during the election period.
PCOL Tagel emphasized that the COMELEC gun ban, which began on January 12 and remains in effect until June 11, 2025, is strictly enforced to ensure peaceful and orderly National and Local Elections.
“Violators will face the full force of the law. We encourage the public to report any suspicious activity as we collectively safeguard the integrity of our electoral process and community safety,” he said.
BCPO continues its proactive law enforcement approach across Baguio, blending routine patrols with targeted operations to deter crime and ensure the well-being of residents and visitors alike.
