BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), under the leadership of Police Colonel Ruel D. Tagel, is doubling down on measures to ensure public safety during the upcoming New Year celebrations.

Central to these efforts is the rigorous enforcement of Republic Act No. 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices, as well as Baguio City Ordinance No. 53, Series of 2009, which bans the sale and use of firecrackers and fireworks within city limits.

In line with its five-pronged program on public safety, the BCPO is collaborating with various government agencies and units to implement a comprehensive public information campaign.

This initiative aims to educate residents and visitors about the dangers of firecrackers and the importance of complying with relevant laws and ordinances.

Highlighting the community’s role in public safety, a significant incident of cooperation occurred on December 23, 2024.

A concerned citizen voluntarily surrendered firecrackers confiscated from a minor sibling.

The items, which included two Judas’s Belts containing a total of 2,000 rounds, were promptly turned over to authorities.

This act underscores the importance of public vigilance and active participation in upholding safety measures.

The BCPO commends the citizen’s initiative and emphasizes its steadfast commitment to protecting and serving the community with selflessness and excellence.

Residents are urged to report any violations of the firecracker ban and remain vigilant during the celebratory period.

For inquiries or to report violations, the public is encouraged to reach out to the BCPO as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and peaceful New Year celebration in Baguio City.
