BAGUIO CITY – Braving the gloomy skies and intermittent rain, the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) Tangerine Team, in coordination with telecommunication companies, pressed on with their efforts to remove hazardous dangling wires along Abanao Extension Street on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Undeterred by the moody weather conditions, the team meticulously inspected the area, identifying and cutting down low-hanging and abandoned cables that posed risks to pedestrians, motorists, and nearby establishments.
This initiative is part of the citywide campaign to eliminate “spaghetti wires” that have long cluttered electric poles and streets, causing not only an eyesore but also potential hazards, including electrocution and accidental entanglement.
The city government of Baguio extended its commendation to the POSD Anti-Dangling Wires Team for their dedication and courage in handling the dangerous task of clearing entangled and neglected utility lines.
Officials acknowledged the team’s continuous efforts in ensuring public safety, despite the inherent risks involved in their operations.
“They are risking their lives to make our streets safer, and for that, we owe them our gratitude,” a city official remarked.
The ongoing cleanup drive, spearheaded by the city government, was launched in response to numerous complaints from residents and business owners about the disorderly and unsafe wiring conditions in various barangays.
The initiative also aligns with the implementation of Mayor Benjamin Magalong’s Memorandum No. 138-24, which mandates the strict regulation and removal of unused telecommunication wires to prevent accidents.
Telecommunication companies participating in the operation assured local authorities that they remain committed to clearing their outdated and inactive lines.
They also vowed to adopt better cable management practices moving forward to prevent the recurrence of this issue.
As the city intensifies its crackdown on dangling wires, residents are urged to report any hazardous utility lines in their neighborhoods.
The POSD, along with local barangay officials, continues to monitor affected areas and conduct systematic cleanups to ensure a safer and more organized urban environment.
Despite the challenges posed by the weather and logistical constraints, the collaborative efforts between the city government, POSD, and telcos reaffirm their shared commitment to making Baguio City a safer place for everyone.
