BAGUIO CITY — For the past decade, Kevin has quietly operated the freight elevator at SM City Baguio, becoming part of the mall’s daily rhythm while proving that persons with disabilities can thrive in inclusive workplaces.

Kevin, who once doubted his own capabilities, said the opportunity to work gave him confidence and a sense of belonging.

“I felt safe, respected, and treated equally,” he shared, noting that the job became more than livelihood — it became a source of dignity and independence.

His story underscores how access to employment can transform lives, allowing individuals with disabilities to discover their strengths and contribute meaningfully to the community.

Dr. Samuel Aquino, Disability Affairs Officer III of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), praised companies that provide opportunities for PWDs.

He expressed hope that inclusive employment will expand to cover not only those with physical disabilities but also individuals with psychosocial conditions.

“Creating inclusive workplaces allows more people to become productive, confident, and empowered,” Aquino said.

Through stories like Kevin’s, SM City Baguio highlights its commitment to fostering inclusive work environments, showing how simple opportunities can create lasting impact for employees and the communities they serve.
