SSS begins early rollout of 2026 pension hike
QUEZON CITY — The Social Security System (SSS) has begun the early implementation of the second tranche of its Pension Reform Program (PRP), advancing a scheduled pension increase for about 4.1 million pensioners by three months to help cushion the impact of inflation and rising energy costs.
The state-run pension fund said Monday that pensioners as of May 31, 2026, would start receiving higher monthly benefits beginning June 1, instead of the original September rollout.
According to the SSS, approximately P6 billion in additional pension benefits will be released from June to August under the accelerated implementation.
Finance Secretary and Social Security Commission Chair Frederick D. Go said the earlier release aims to provide immediate support to pensioners and their families.
“We are releasing the second tranche of pension increases ahead of schedule to support millions of pensioners and their families, helping them meet their daily needs and enjoy greater financial security sooner,” Go said in a statement.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said the agency moved up the increase to provide relief as pensioners continue to face higher living costs.
Under the second tranche of the PRP, retirement and disability pensioners will receive a 10% increase in their monthly pensions, while death and survivor pensioners will receive a 5% increase.
The SSS said pensioners whose benefit contingencies occur between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2026, will begin receiving the higher pension rates starting Sept. 1.
The Pension Reform Program, launched in 2025, is described by the agency as the first multi-year pension increase program in SSS history.
The initiative provides annual pension adjustments every September from 2025 through 2027.
The SSS said the program is intended to help pensioners maintain purchasing power amid rising prices while ensuring continued access to social security benefits.
The agency did not announce any changes to contribution rates or funding mechanisms in connection with the accelerated rollout.
