BAGUIO CITY — Joy and excitement filled the Summer Capital as city officials, residents, and visitors gathered along Upper Session Road on December 1, 2025, for the annual lighting of the Baguio Christmas Tree themed “Biyaya ng Liwanag, Pasko sa Baguio.”
Spearheaded by the City Buildings and Architecture Office in collaboration with the City Tourism Office, this year’s highly anticipated Christmas Tree highlights sustainability, using bamboo as its primary material and adorned with decorative lights to reflect the city government’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives.
The Christmas Tree also features the creative contributions of artists Resty Lopez, Joey Quinio, Reydon Amking, and James Calicdan.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong, accompanied by his wife Arlene, led the event alongside Abraham De Castro, representative of Congressman Mauricio Domogan; Councilors Van Dicang, Yuri Weygan, and John Rey Mananeng; and Gladys Vergara, chairperson of the Baguio Tourism Council, among other officials and guests.
In his message, Magalong emphasized the core values of Christmas—hope, love, and goodness—while acknowledging the pressing challenges facing the nation, including corruption.
He expressed hope that despite uncertainties, people would continue to hold on to what moves them forward.
While awaiting the ceremonial countdown, the crowd was entertained by musical performances from the University of Baguio Rondalla, followed by presentations from the UB Graces, Voices Chorale, and the UB Chamber Orchestra.
The Christmas Tree was blessed by Saint Louis University President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, together with CICM priests, who also led prayers for the Yuletide season.
As the tree lit up, fireworks illuminated the night sky, signaling the vibrant opening of the SLU Lantern Parade, marking the festive start of Baguio City’s Christmas celebrations.
