LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The Women of Poblacion Local Council (WPLC), a newly formed umbrella organization for women’s groups in Barangay Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet, held its second official meeting on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

This follows their oath-taking ceremony last week led by Barangay Poblacion Punong Barangay Manuel L. Amoy.

The meeting focused on laying down the mission and vision of the council, with members emphasizing the importance of long-term goals in sustaining women’s empowerment in the community.

WPLC aims to foster closer ties among women in all sitios of Barangay Poblacion while strengthening collaboration with other local organizations such as the Wonderful Women of Poblacion Association (WOWPA), Solo Parents of Poblacion, the Women’s Brigade, and Persons with Disability (PWD) groups.

According to Vice Chairman Adelle Dicang Telino, who also serves as the local PWD President and Federal Officer, the council was formed in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWD) of La Trinidad and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

She stressed that WPLC needs both collaboration and subsidy from the local government, while expressing optimism for the approval of a proposed ordinance to provide such support.

For 2025, WPLC’s priorities include raising awareness on women’s rights, addressing community issues with the help of barangay and municipal leaders, and ensuring that information about the council reaches all sitios.

At least 47 women attended the meeting, with representatives coming from Sitios in barangays Kesbeng, Town Proper, Eastern Buyagan, Western Buyagan, Central Buyagan, and Windy Hill.

WPLC Chairman Asuncion Anod underscored the purpose of the council: to empower women in Poblacion and beyond.

“Haan nga gapo ta babae tayo ket babae tayo lang, we are empowered.”
