UnionBank has launched Google Pay for its cardholders in the Philippines, becoming one of the first local banks to offer the mobile payment service.
The rollout enables UnionBank Visa credit card users to make tap-to-pay transactions using NFC-enabled Android phones across all contactless-enabled merchants.
The partnership marks a significant step in expanding digital payment options for Filipino consumers. UnionBank said Google Pay enhances convenience by allowing customers to pay without physical cards or manual entry of card details.
“We’re focused on making life easier for our customers by ensuring digital payments are as seamless and intuitive as possible,” said Mukul Sukhani, UnionBank Cards and Consumer Lending Head.
Google Philippines Country Manager Prep Palacios said the launch reflects the company’s commitment to advancing financial inclusion and accelerating the country’s growing digital economy.
The service supports existing card benefits such as rewards, rebates, and cashback. Users can start by downloading the Google Wallet app and adding their UnionBank Visa Credit Card.
UnionBank and Google highlighted security as a key feature, noting that Google Pay transactions use advanced encryption and tokenization, complemented by the bank’s own security systems.
The addition of Google Pay strengthens UnionBank’s digital ecosystem, which already includes the Tap to Pay feature within the UnionBank Online app.
The bank said the move aligns with its digital-first strategy aimed at simplifying daily financial experiences for customers.
Google Pay availability is currently in beta and limited to UnionBank Visa Credit Cards, with Visa Debit Card support rolling out soon.
