New haven for reflection launched at Camp John Hay
BAGUIO CITY — A new space dedicated to wellness, reflection and community engagement has opened at Camp John Hay, marking the latest development initiative of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority–John Hay Management Corp. (BCDA‑JHMC).
The 896‑square‑meter Tranquility Park was inaugurated Tuesday, with JHMC President and CEO Manjit Singh Reandi leading the ribbon‑cutting ceremony.
Reandi underscored shared responsibility in sustaining the site, telling staff and stakeholders that development continues beyond project completion.
“Development means sustaining what we have built. Let us help one another to preserve and nurture it. The opening of a project does not mark the end of responsibility; it marks the beginning of it,” he said.
The park draws inspiration from Camp John Hay’s historical role as a rest and recreation area for U.S. soldiers during World War II, reinterpreting that legacy into a modern setting focused on mindfulness and well‑being.
Designed by architect Leonardo Biasura Jr., in collaboration with several JHMC divisions, the park features a symmetrical layout intended to promote calm and balance.
Key elements include a central meditation statue, landscaped walkways and open areas for quiet reflection and light physical activity.
BCDA‑JHMC said the project aims to provide visitors with a setting for meditation, exercise and social interaction, while maintaining harmony with the surrounding environment.
The development forms part of broader efforts to enhance Camp John Hay as a destination for tourism and community‑centered activities, the agency added.
