SNAP-Benguet wins BADANG waste management award

BAGUIO CITY — SN Aboitiz Power Benguet Inc. (SNAP-Benguet) has received the BADANG Excellence Award for Solid Waste Management, recognizing the renewable energy company’s environmental programs and waste management initiatives in the Cordillera region, the company said.

The award was presented by the Environmental Management Bureau–Cordillera Administrative Region (EMB-CAR) during the 9th Cordillera Environmental Summit held on June 30 in Baguio City.

The BADANG Excellence Awards recognize industries and institutions that demonstrate outstanding environmental programs and best practices supporting sustainable development and environmental protection across the Cordillera.

Award categories include hazardous waste management, wastewater treatment and water conservation, air quality management, solid waste management, and environmental information and education leadership.

SNAP-Benguet said the recognition highlights its long-running solid waste management initiatives, including the operation of a Material Recovery Facility that recovers recyclable materials while supporting the waste management needs of nearby communities.

The company also cited its color-coded waste segregation system, the installation of log booms and a semi-automated trash rack cleaning machine to collect floating debris from dam reservoirs, and regular clean-up drives as key components of its environmental program.

According to SNAP-Benguet, these initiatives are implemented under its ISO 14001-certified environmental management system, which guides the company’s environmental performance and compliance.

The latest recognition adds to the company’s environmental and workplace safety achievements.

SNAP-Benguet previously emerged as a regional champion and national finalist in the Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan Awards and received international recognition in 2024 at the ASEAN-Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) Awards in Singapore for its occupational safety and health programs.

“The award underscores SNAP-Benguet’s continued commitment to advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through environmental stewardship and safe operations that create lasting value for the communities where it operates,” the company said.

SNAP develops, owns and operates hydroelectric power facilities in the Philippines and continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio as part of its long-term sustainability strategy.
