
MAKATI CITY — The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) on December 19, 2025 swore in two independent directors representing the private sector, completing the four-member private sector representation on its governing board.
PDIC Chairperson and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. administered the oath of office to Justice Lady P. Soriano and Imelda C. Tiongson in simple ceremonies at the PDIC office in Makati City.
PDIC said the appointments are expected to further strengthen the corporation’s mandate to protect depositors and promote financial stability, citing the directors’ extensive experience in banking, finance, governance, risk management, and financial technology.
As independent directors, Soriano and Tiongson are tasked to help ensure impartiality in deposit insurance policies and uphold the integrity and soundness of the country’s deposit insurance system.
Soriano is the Chief Finance Officer of Synergy Grid and Development Philippines, Inc., overseeing financial management, planning, and regulatory reporting to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Philippine Stock Exchange. She previously served as consultant to Calaca High Power Corp., Assistant Vice President of the Development Bank of the Philippines, and Manager of the PDIC Financial Assistance Management Center from 1996 to 2006. She holds a degree in Economics from Ateneo de Manila University and a master’s degree in Finance from De La Salle University.
Tiongson brings more than three decades of experience in banking and finance, audit and risk management, corporate governance, and information technology. She is Vice Chairperson and Trustee of the Institute of Corporate Directors, a trustee of Fintech Alliance PH and Womenbiz PH, and Chair of the Governance Committee of the Management Association of the Philippines. She is currently President/Consultant of OPAL SPV, focusing on the turnaround of distressed companies and assets, and lectures in various institutions, including the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Tiongson previously held senior executive roles at the Philippine National Bank and the National Australia Bank and participated in drafting key business laws, including the Financial Institutions Strategic Transfer Corporation law, the Financial Rehabilitation and Insolvency Act, and the Revised Corporation Code. She was also a committee member of the BSP Open Finance Technical Group. She earned an Accountancy degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and completed advanced banking and strategy programs.
Soriano and Tiongson join Directors John Mark S. Frondoso and Luis Rey I. Velasco as the PDIC Board’s private sector representatives.
