New Lucban repaints vandalized walls through police-community partnership
BAGUIO CITY, July 8 — Walls previously marked by vandalism in parts of Barangay New Lucban have been repainted through a joint community effort led by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), local officials and a civic organization, as authorities continue to encourage public participation in protecting shared spaces.
The clean-up and repainting activity was held on July 5 with personnel from BCPO Police Station 7, officials of Barangay New Lucban and volunteers from the Unity Alliance Baguio Chapter working together to cover unauthorized markings on public walls, according to a statement issued by the BCPO.
The initiative followed a recent dialogue involving community groups, government agencies and local stakeholders, where participants committed to support socio-civic programs, including the removal of unauthorized and gang-related markings from public property, environmental activities and peace-building efforts.
Police said the repainting activity also supports the continuing implementation of Baguio City’s Anti-Graffiti Code, or City Ordinance No. 041, Series of 2008, which seeks to discourage vandalism and protect public property.
BCPO City Director Police Col. Ruel D. Tagel said the activity highlights the value of sustained community engagement and shared responsibility in maintaining public spaces.
“The activity demonstrates how sustained engagement and shared responsibility can bring about positive change and inspire greater participation in preserving the city’s public spaces,” Tagel said in the statement.
Police said they expect similar collaborative activities to continue as part of efforts to keep communities safe, orderly and clean while promoting civic responsibility among residents and local organizations.
