BAGUIO CITY — Three people on the roadside and five others in nearby vehicles were hurt when a van barreled through traffic on Legarda Road late Thursday morning in Baguio City.
A motorcycle driver, a back rider, and a pedestrian were the first to be struck after a Toyota Previa hit a concrete wall and continued moving forward around 10:44 a.m.
Witnesses said the impact threw the riders off the motorcycle and sent the pedestrian to the ground before the vehicle kept going.
Inside other vehicles, more people were jolted as the Previa crashed into a Toyota Innova.
The hit forced the Innova into a Toyota Hilux, which was then shoved into a Tamaraw FX in front of it.
All five vehicles sustained significant front and rear damage before the Previa finally stopped against the parking entrance wall of a nearby restaurant.
Emergency Medical Services personnel treated eight individuals, seven of whom were rushed to the hospital.
One victim was discharged after receiving on-site care.
Officers from the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Baguio City Police Office, headed by City Director PCol Ruel Tagel, are investigating the incident and preparing potential charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and property damage.
