KAPANGAN, Benguet, March 2, 2026 — Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Kapangan officially opened Fire Prevention Month 2026 on Monday with a motorcade across this Benguet municipality, underscoring the campaign theme, “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” (In Fire Prevention, You Are Not Alone).

The event was led by Fire Inspector Chesterboy T. Presco, acting municipal fire marshal, in coordination with Mayor Harris M. Dizon and supported by local government offices, law enforcement units, schools and community stakeholders.

About 10 vehicles joined the motorcade, which began at the Kapangan BFP station and proceeded to Sagubo National High School and Sagubo Elementary School before returning to its point of origin.

At the school stop, fire personnel distributed informational flyers and engaged students, teachers and residents on practical fire prevention measures, including safe electrical use, proper storage of flammable materials and emergency response preparedness.

Participating agencies included the local government of Kapangan, the Kapangan Philippine National Police, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Rural Health Unit, District Hospital, Municipal Agriculture Office, Provincial Agriculture Office, Sangguniang Bayan members and representatives from Barangays Labueg and Sagubo.

Officials said the motorcade signaled the start of a month-long campaign focused on strengthening public awareness, household preparedness and inter-agency coordination to reduce fire incidents.

Fire Prevention Month is observed nationwide every March, a period historically associated with higher fire incidence due to warmer temperatures.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, conduct regular safety checks at home and in workplaces, and report potential hazards promptly to help prevent fire-related losses.
