Hotel Supreme opens new art gallery in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY — Hotel Supreme has opened a new art space in Baguio City, seeking to give local artists greater exposure while creating a venue for artists from outside the city.

The Jade Gallery opened to the public on Aug. 28 with its inaugural exhibition, First Light, featuring works by five Baguio artists — Julian Julmir Almirol, Edmund Andrada, Danielle Florendo, Robert Joaquin and Art Lozano.

The gallery is located on the third floor of the Hotel Supreme Mall & Events Center along Magsaysay Avenue and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Hotel Supreme said the gallery forms part of its continuing commitment to the Baguio community and is intended to provide artists with a dedicated venue to present their work to residents and visitors.

“The idea is really to show people how good our artists are and how much creativity there is to discover,” The Jade Gallery curator Chino Chow said.

“There is so much talent here and elsewhere, and we want to provide a space where people can encounter these works, spend time with them and better appreciate what artists are creating,” he added.

The hotel said interest from artists had been strong since plans for the gallery became known, with exhibitions already scheduled through March 2027.

“We’re very happy that artists have connected with us and expressed their interest in exhibiting their work,” Hotel Supreme General Manager Mark Jefferson C. Ng said.

“Our exhibition calendar is already booked until March 2027, which is very encouraging for a gallery that has only just opened, he added”

Hotel Supreme said the planned rotating exhibition program would feature different artists, styles and perspectives, including established and emerging artists from Baguio and elsewhere.

The initiative also forms part of the hotel’s broader effort to use its spaces and resources to support the city’s cultural life.

Peter L. Ng, Hotel Supreme chief executive officer and president, said the gallery was intended to provide another venue for artistic talent to gain public exposure.

“The gallery may be new, but the talent has always been there,” he said. “What we want to do is give that talent another place to be seen.”

The inaugural First Light exhibition brings together Almirol, Andrada, Florendo, Joaquin and Lozano as the gallery begins its exhibition program.

Baguio has long been associated with a strong arts community, and The Jade Gallery said it aims to build on that creative environment while eventually presenting artists and perspectives from beyond the city.
