BAGUIO CITY — Baguio 911 can now directly receive calls made via Globe Telecom and Touch Mobile SIMs and landlines with the full operationalization of Globe’s cross-connection with the city’s primary helpline.
Globe Account Manager Jefferson Corpuz on Dec. 2, 2024 said the integration of Globe and a local 911 is a first in the country.
“This localization of 911 in our system is a first in the whole Philippines and Baguio now will serve as a model for this service for benchmarking by other localities,” Corpuz said.
Corpuz said it took some time to complete the integration because it was not a standard service for the company.
“We really made adjustments just to make it happen,” he said.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed appreciation to the company for making this aspiration a reality.
“We thank the Globe company for making it happen. With the integration calls are now directly transmitted to Baguio 911 instead of going first to 911 central and dispatching to Baguio 911. This effectively cuts down call processing time and will greatly speed up our response to public calls for assistance,” he said.
Last month, Globe announced the completion of its cross-connection integration.
Geo-fencing activities within the borders of the city were conducted for two to three weeks and upon completion, test runs were conducted until it was declared fully operational by Dec. 1.
As such, Globe now joins the ranks of Smart, Talk and Text and Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) as prime movers of the local helpline.
Magalong said this is significant as Baguio 911 continues to develop as a primary helpline in the city as proven by the substantial increase in calls since it was commissioned on Oct. 12, 2021.
The Baguio 911 helpline is operated at the Baguio Smart City Command Center (SC3) and based on the public’s response, it is emerging to be an essential resource for emergency and general assistance in the city.
