Baguio Celebrates 114th Charter Anniversary

BAGUIO CITY — The picturesque summer capital of the Philippines marked its 114th Charter Anniversary on September 1, 2023, with a program held at the Baguio Convention Center.

The celebration brought together prominent figures from the region, the nation, and even abroad.

Key officers from the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO Cordillera) graced the event, led by chief regional staff Julio S. Lizardo, along with the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division chief Byron B. Tegui-In,  and Baguio City Police Office city director Francisco B. Bulwayan, Jr.

The celebration also saw the participation of distinguished personalities, including Baguio Congressman Marquez O. Go; Baguio mayor Benjamin B. Magalong; Baguio vice mayor Faustino A. Olowan; and members of the City Council.

The US Ambassador to the Philippines, Marykay L. Carlson, graced the event as the guest of honor and speaker.

As a testament to the outstanding contributions of Baguio’s residents, three constituents were conferred with the prestigious Outstanding Citizens of Baguio awards for 2023.

The event carried the theme “Reflections of the Past, Visions for a Resilient Future,” a poignant reminder of Baguio’s rich history and the city’s aspirations for a resilient and progressive future.

The Local Government Unit of Baguio hosted the ceremony, underscoring its commitment to fostering growth and development in the city.

The significance of this day in Baguio’s history cannot be understated, as it was passed into law through Republic Act 6710.

This legislation declares September 1 of every year as Baguio Charter Day and designates it as a special non-working holiday in the city.
