BAGUIO CITY — BENECO system planning and design engineer Jeffrey Dapyawen conducted thermal scanning across several distribution feeders on Thursday to identify equipment hotspots and prevent potential power interruptions, the cooperative confirmed.
According to BENECO community relations associate Laarni S. Ilagan, the inspection covered segments of Feeder 14, parts of Feeder 12 at the DPS Compound, and the Central Business District areas supplied by Feeders 5 and 5A, including Notre Dame Hospital, Session Road, and Maharlika.
Dapyawen also assessed Feeder 6, which supplies power to BGHMC.
The engineer carried out the scanning on foot to ensure thorough coverage and avoid traffic congestion that could hinder the assessment.
Using one of BENECO’s thermal scanners, he checked for overheating components or parts showing early signs of failure.
Ilagan said the cooperative considers these potential hotspots as “sick” components that may require intervention, correction, or upgrades to prevent system deterioration.
BENECO added that daily thermal scanning is a regular part of its preventive maintenance program aimed at stopping minor equipment issues from escalating into major system faults or widespread outages.
The cooperative reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining reliable distribution service through continuous field monitoring and proactive system interventions.
