BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) apprehended 124 motorists in a two-day intensified operation targeting loud mufflers and unauthorized exhaust modifications, authorities said.

From June 12 to 14, police enforced rules under Land Transportation Office guidelines on excessively loud mufflers and modified exhaust systems, leading to 44 citations for loud mufflers and 80 for illegal modifications.

The operation formed part of OPLAN D.R.I.V.E., a local road safety and discipline campaign, supported by pre-enforcement awareness drives including social media advisories, roadside tarpaulins, and consultations with the Land Transportation Office, motorcycle shop owners, and rider groups.

Authorities said 43 BCPO personnel were deputized by the LTO to strengthen enforcement capacity during the crackdown.

“The campaign against loud mufflers and other traffic violations will continue as BCPO remains steadfast in promoting responsible road use and ensuring a safer environment,” Police Colonel Ruel D. Tagel said in a statement.

The police did not immediately provide details on fines or vehicle impoundments.
