BAGUIO CITY — April 1, 2026 — Devotees gathered at the Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral on Wednesday afternoon to take part in the Stations of the Cross, a solemn Lenten tradition commemorating the passion and suffering of Jesus Christ.
Beginning at 4 p.m., participants carried a wooden cross across the cathedral grounds, stopping at each station for prayers and quiet reflection.
The ritual, observed widely by Roman Catholics during Lent, retraces Christ’s journey to crucifixion and underscores themes of sacrifice, repentance and faith.
A mix of parishioners and visitors joined the observance, forming a steady procession that moved deliberately from one station to the next. Some bowed their heads in silence, while others recited prayers in unison, creating an atmosphere marked by reverence and contemplation.
Church organizers said the activity is among the key spiritual practices leading up to Holy Week, drawing the faithful into deeper reflection on the significance of the Lenten season.
Despite the cool mountain air, the turnout reflected a sustained commitment among the faithful to observe long-held traditions.
For many participants, the annual rite remains both a personal and communal expression of devotion.
