BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — SM City Baguio mobilized employee volunteers to help prepare Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School for the opening of classes, continuing a long-running partnership under the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program.
Volunteers participated in clean-up and school preparation activities aimed at improving the learning environment for students and teachers ahead of the new academic year, the mall operator said in a statement.
The initiative forms part of SM City Baguio’s annual support for Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School, its adopted partner school, reflecting the company’s broader community engagement efforts focused on education and school readiness.
Employee volunteers worked within the school grounds to help ensure classrooms and shared facilities were ready for the return of learners.
Activities included general clean-up and preparation work designed to create a safer and more welcoming environment for the school community.
Beyond physical improvements, the program underscores the role of collaboration among schools, private-sector organizations and local communities in supporting educational outcomes.
Brigada Eskwela, a nationwide volunteer initiative led by the Department of Education, encourages stakeholders to contribute time, resources and expertise to help schools prepare for the start of classes.
For SM City Baguio, the annual activity has evolved into a continuing partnership with the school community, strengthening ties between the private sector and education stakeholders.
The company said it remains committed to supporting community-based programs that promote volunteerism, education and shared responsibility for future generations.
