Graduation marks a transition rather than an endpoint for SM Foundation scholars, as many alumni continue to support their families and communities while remaining engaged with the Foundation long after completing their studies.
Through its Education Program, the SM Foundation sustains its relationship with scholars beyond college through alumni activities, job fairs, mentoring initiatives, and regional assemblies.
These efforts help maintain a network of graduates who apply their education and values in their professions while contributing to social development.
Among the alumni is Peter Paul Alcober, a 2019 Accountancy graduate of Saint Paul School of Professional Studies, who now works as a Finance Business Partner at a multinational company in the National Capital Region.
Alcober said the years following graduation allowed him to strengthen his financial and analytical skills while pursuing graduate studies toward an MBA degree.
Alongside his professional growth, Alcober said supporting his family remains a priority, citing emotional, practical, and financial assistance as key ways he gives back.
He also remains active in SM Foundation alumni activities and mentoring programs.
Another alumna, Danzel Bacaycay, earned her Accountancy degree from Asia Pacific College in 2011 before entering the Philippine Air Force Officer Candidate School.
She was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2013 and has since held various finance and leadership roles within the Philippine Air Force.
Bacaycay currently serves as Chief of the Command Information and Historical Office of the Air Mobility Command and is a third-year law student.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led the Philippine Air Force Quarantine Response Team in Mandaue City, supporting public health and humanitarian efforts.
Bacaycay said the values she gained from her upbringing and the SM Foundation continue to guide her service.
She remains connected with the Foundation through alumni participation and storytelling initiatives.
Both Alcober and Bacaycay continue to engage with the SM scholar network, maintaining ties with fellow alumni and supporting the Foundation’s programs when called upon.
