BCPO warns public against fundraising and faffle scams

BAGUIO CITY — The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) is urging the public to remain vigilant against individuals or groups engaged in fraudulent fundraising activities and solicitations.

Authorities revealed that unsuspecting victims were lured into participating in a supposed raffle, only to later discover that it was a scheme designed to extort money under false pretenses.

To prevent similar incidents, the BCPO advises residents to carefully verify the legitimacy of any fundraising drive, raffle, or solicitation before providing support or financial contributions.

In a statement, BCPO City Director PCOL Ruel D. Tagel stressed,

“While we encourage genuine community efforts to extend help through fundraising, we must also protect ourselves from individuals who exploit the goodwill of others for personal gain.”

The BCPO further reminded the public to check for proper permits or authorizations from local government offices before joining any solicitation drive.

Citizens should also be cautious of high-pressure tactics or promises of large rewards in exchange for money.

Police officials assured the community that they are actively monitoring scam operations and will take swift legal action against those found violating the law.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities immediately to the police through the BCPO hotlines or by calling 911.
