BAGUIO CITY – A 59-year-old man accused of involvement in terrorist activities has voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Police Station 1 on November 20, 2024.

This development follows a series of negotiations conducted by the Baguio’s Finest, leading to his submission in compliance with a warrant for his arrest for violating Republic Act 10168, The Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012.

According to reports submitted to BCPO City Director, PCOL Ruel D. Tagel, the accused is alleged to have played a role in gathering and providing financial and logistical support to the Chadli Molintas Command, a faction of the New People’s Army (NPA).

These actions reportedly were linked to terrorism-related activities in Itogon, Benguet, in February 2017.

The successful surrender was made possible through the tireless efforts of the BCPO City Mobile Force Company (CMFC), who had been in negotiation with the accused even before the Regional Trial Court in Urdaneta, Pangasinan issued the arrest warrant on November 15, 2024.

The operation involved collaboration among various police units, including personnel from the BCPO Police Station 1, City Intelligence Team (CIT) Baguio–Regional Intelligence Unit 14, City Police Strategy Management Unit (CPSMU), Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Baguio City Field Unit (CFU), Regional Intelligence Division-Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (RIDPRO CAR), Joint Task Unit (JTU) Baguio, Technical Support Company-Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 (TSC-RMFB 15), and the BCPO City Intelligence Unit.

In his dialogue with the accused and his counsel, PCOL Tagel highlighted the accountability to justice displayed by the surrenderer, as he ensured that his rights are respected as he faces due legal processes.

The public is, likewise, assured that the BCPO remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding public safety and upholding the rule of law.

Through diligent efforts, collaboration, and adherence to due process, the Baguio’s Finest is geared towards a safe and secure community.
