SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) led the celebration of Elderly Filipino Week 2025 at SM Mall of Asia, honoring the vital role of senior citizens in nation-building and promoting their continued inclusion in society.
With the theme “Embracing Age: Living a Life with Dignity and Purpose,” the event gathered hundreds of senior citizens and partner organizations for a full day of wellness, recreation, and meaningful engagement.
The program opened with a Eucharistic celebration, followed by the Walk for Life, inspiring messages from senior advocates, and a high-energy Zumba session that showcased the vitality of the elderly community.
To support the health and wellbeing of participants, wellness booths were set up around the venue offering free services such as medical consultations, acupuncture, massage therapy, eye care, and e-government ID registration.
These initiatives aimed to make essential services more accessible for seniors while promoting inclusion and lifelong learning.
Engr. Bien C. Mateo, SM Cares Program Director for Senior Citizens, emphasized the organization’s long-standing commitment to senior welfare. “Our seniors have given so much to their families and communities. Through Elderly Filipino Week, SM Cares reaffirms its commitment to championing the welfare of our elderly, making sure they feel celebrated, supported, and empowered,” he said.
Ana Marie C. Calapit, Acting Executive Director of the NCSC, echoed this appreciation. “We are deeply grateful to SM Cares for walking hand in hand with us in celebrating and empowering our senior citizens through meaningful activities like this,” she shared.
The celebration underscored SM Supermalls’ dedication to fostering inclusive spaces where different generations can connect.
It also reaffirmed the importance of building communities that uplift seniors not only within malls but in the wider society.
For years, SM Cares has led initiatives for older adults—ranging from barrier-free mall facilities and emergency preparedness training to social development programs.
Through this annual observance, the organization continues to promote wellness, dignity, and purpose for seniors at every stage of life.
The event also aligns with SM Supermalls’ 40th anniversary theme, “Celebrating 40 Super Years of Evolving With Every You.”
With 88 malls across the Philippines, SM continues to serve as a trusted hub for diverse lifestyles while evolving through sustainability, innovation, and inclusive experiences.
