BAGUIO CITY — The Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands extended an early Christmas gift to employees of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO), honoring their dedication and service to the people of Baguio City, particularly during disasters and emergencies.

The gift-giving activity, led by Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands President Ponciano Valdez Jr., past president Fernando Tiong, and Assistant Governor Anna Liza Chan, was held as a gesture of appreciation for BENECO’s linemen and staff who continue to work under hazardous conditions to restore power during calamities.

A total of 280 bags of premium rice were donated to BENECO employees, symbolizing the Rotary Club’s gratitude and solidarity with the cooperative’s workforce.

Valdez said the initiative aimed to acknowledge the efforts of BENECO employees, especially those who continued restoration work during Typhoon “Uwan” and other calamities.

The initiative, which began during the term of past president Anna Liza Chan as a tribute exclusively for linemen, has since expanded to include all BENECO employees, reflecting the Rotary Club’s continuing commitment to inclusive service and community partnership.

Joining Valdez at the activity were Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands Charter President Ernesto Panis, Immediate Past President Roderick Bernardez, and other club members, all reinforcing Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self.”

BENECO officials and employees, represented by Assistant General Manager Engr. Art Bacoco, Non-Network Services Department Manager Ramil Rifani, Network Services Department Manager Fraiser Angayen, Audit Manager Wendel Cabson, and Corporate Management Office head Christopher George Tait, expressed gratitude for the recognition.

Bacoco said the donation served as an early Christmas gift for BENECO employees and expressed the cooperative’s appreciation to the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands for recognizing their work.

The Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands said the initiative underscores the importance of honoring frontline workers whose contributions often go unnoticed but remain vital in keeping Baguio City powered and resilient, especially during times of crisis.
