BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The BYD Tech Tour Baguio has officially kicked off at SM City Baguio Mall Atrium, running from September 5 to 7.
Hosted by SEAelectric, an affiliate of SEAOIL Philippines, Inc. and the official BYD dealer in key Northern Luzon provinces, the three-day showcase marks the city’s bold entry into the electric vehicle (EV) era.
But beyond the excitement of sleek displays and promos, three big questions are in focus: charging, performance, and support.
At the opening ceremonies, Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong—represented by his son Kobe—joined BYD Philippines Country Head Adam Hu, AC Mobility Managing Director Bob Palanca, and SEAelectric Dealer Principal Mark L. Yu in affirming their commitment to develop EV-ready infrastructure in Baguio.
Plans include maintenance and repair centers, charging hubs, and supportive policies to ease adoption for both residents and businesses.
SEAelectric is steadily expanding across Northern Luzon, with a showroom already in San Fernando City, La Union, and upcoming branches in Bauang, Rosario, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Tuguegarao, and Baguio itself—making charging and after-sales service more accessible.
Baguio’s steep roads and cooler climate make real-world driving conditions unique. At the Tech Tour, visitors can test drive BYD’s latest models, including the Shark 6 DMO, eMAX 7, Seal 5 Dynamic, Sealion 6 DM-i, and Sealion 5 DM-i, at the valet area. This gives attendees the opportunity to experience the vehicles firsthand in Baguio’s environment, without making claims about range or performance.
EV adoption isn’t just about buying the car—it’s about long-term confidence. SEAelectric and BYD executives highlighted their commitment to after-sales support, including warranty coverage, accessible service centers, and roadside assistance.
To encourage early adoption, the Tech Tour offers exclusive promotions such as big discounts, free fuel, free premium coating, and other freebies for customers who reserve their units during the event.
“This marks the beginning of the city’s EV journey and highlights its role in the country’s energy transition. With Baguio’s strong leadership and engaged community, we see the potential for EV adoption to take root here and set an example for other cities in the Philippines.” –SEAelectric CEO Glenn Yu
Nationwide, EV numbers are accelerating—from just over 24,000 registered units in 2024 to nearly 30,000 by July 2025, with projections of 35,000 by year-end. That’s a 46% jump in one year. By hosting the BYD Tech Tour Baguio, the city cements its place as a leader in this movement.
Adding momentum, Republic Act No. 11697 (Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act or EVIDA) provides an exemption from the number coding scheme for EVs, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) for nine years from the law’s effectivity. This government incentive aims to promote the growth of the local EV industry and encourage sustainable transportation nationwide.
The BYD Tech Tour Baguio is more than an auto show—it’s a roadmap for the future. Charging solutions, test drive experiences, and reliable after-sales support are front and center, giving Baguio residents the confidence to explore EV ownership.
And with test drives stealing the spotlight, guests don’t just see the future of mobility—they get to drive it themselves.
