BAGUIO CITY — The city of Baguio, through its local government, recently honored two of its student-athletes, Aira Cordero Villegas and Nesthy Alcayde Petecio, for their outstanding achievements at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Aira Cordero Villegas secured a bronze medal in the Women’s 50kg boxing division, a victory that earned her recognition from Baguio’s government through Resolution No. 520, Series of 2024.
Villegas, a student-athlete from the University of Baguio, was praised for her resilience and exceptional performance, bringing immense pride to both the city and the nation.
During the Monday flag-raising ceremony at the Baguio City Hall Lobby, Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, and the city council presented her with a framed copy of the resolution in celebration of her success.
Likewise, Nesthy Alcayde Petecio was congratulated for winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 57kg boxing division.
Petecio, also a student-athlete at the University of Baguio, was recognized through Resolution No. 521, Series of 2024, for her dedication and perseverance in the sport.
The framed resolution was awarded to her during the same flag-raising ceremony by Mayor Magalong, Vice Mayor Olowan, and the city council members.
Both athletes have brought great pride to Baguio and the nation, serving as role models and inspirations to the youth.
