MANILA, Philippines — UnionBank of the Philippines has launched Zero-Touch Onboarding, a fully digital payroll account opening solution that eliminates manual processing and reduces onboarding time to less than 24 hours, the bank announced.
The new solution allows companies to onboard employees, agents, and payees without submitting physical documents or coordinating directly with bank personnel.
Built on UnionBank’s Business Banking platform, The Portal, the system enables employees to open payroll accounts using their mobile phones by scanning a QR code and completing the process through the UnionBank Online app.
According to UnionBank, the innovation cuts the industry-standard onboarding timeline—typically up to two weeks—down to one day, with salary crediting possible as early as the day after account completion.
UnionBank said the new Zero-Touch Onboarding system is designed to address inefficiencies in traditional HR payroll processes by reducing manual work and shortening onboarding timelines.
Erika Denise Dizon-Go, senior vice president and deputy head of the bank’s Transaction Banking Center, said the solution allows companies to save time while simplifying the payroll account opening experience for employees.
The solution removes the need for HR and operations teams to collect, review, and submit employee documents.
Once accounts are opened, HR officers can view employees’ account numbers directly on The Portal, while UnionBank handles verification, approval, and account activation.
Zero-Touch Onboarding builds on the bank’s eDAO (ePaycard Digital Account Opening) initiative launched in 2021, which introduced digital onboarding for corporate payroll accounts in the Philippines.
The new offering extends that capability by providing a fully automated, zero-intervention process for employers.
UnionBank said the launch reflects its continued focus on digital innovation and customer-centric banking solutions.
The bank has received multiple industry recognitions, including being named Digital Bank of the Year six times by The Asset’s Triple A Awards and Best Digital Bank Philippines by Asiamoney and International Finance Magazine.
