BAGUIO CITY – Since January of this year, nine establishments, including six reputable businesses, have faced closure proceedings due to unsanitary operational conditions.

According to Engr. Bryan Charles Carame, the head of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Division at the City Health Services Office, among the six food establishments, two were involved in taho production, two in lumpia wrapper manufacturing, one in pizza production, and one in kakanin preparation.

The remaining three were sari-sari stores.

Some of these establishments have reopened after complying with the recommendations and correcting their infractions under the guidance of the division.

Carame said monitoring still continues to ensure that they will not repeat their misdeeds.

On October 10, 2023, the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), with assistance from the Public Order and Safety Division, executed a closure order issued by Mayor Benjamin Magalong to shut down a lumpia wrapper factory located at Hilltop Market.

The factory was found to be operating under unsanitary conditions, as revealed by inspections conducted by the sanitation division.

Additionally, it was discovered that the factory had been operating without a business permit, resulting in the non-payment of regulatory fees and business taxes.

In September of this year, the sanitation division raised concerns about a taho factory located in Brookside Barangay.

The factory was cited for unhygienic conditions and air pollution.

The division’s action was prompted by a complaint from the neighborhood regarding excessive smoke emissions from the factory, which was causing a nuisance.

In response to these issues, the establishment received a Sanitary Order and Notice of Violation, instructing them to meet sanitation standards and cease the use of coconut husks for cooking to prevent excessive smoke within a three-day period.

Carame said the division will continue monitoring establishments in the city to ensure the health and safety of the city’s populace.

Violations may be reported to the division at tel. no. 074-4449217.
