SM Supermalls showcases green building design in Energy Conservation Roadshow

BAGUIO CITY — SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with SM Prime and Youth Power Up DOE’s Energy Conservation Campaign.

The campaign, titled “You Have the Power,” aims to promote energy efficiency and conservation, with a particular focus on engaging the youth and their families.

The launch event will take place at the SM City Baguio Atrium from June 23 to June 26, 2023.

According to a statement issued by SM Supermalls, the overarching theme of the campaign, “You Have the Power,” embodies the notion of capability and responsibility in driving energy conservation efforts.

Central to the roadshow will be the exhibition of SM Prime’s cutting-edge green building design, which encompasses renewable energy integration, energy-efficient building management systems, and electric vehicle charging stations.

These innovative features demonstrate SM’s commitment to sustainability and serve as an inspiration for other establishments.

To actively involve the youth in this important cause, the roadshow will feature a DOE Learning Session, in collaboration with the University of the Cordilleras Senior High School.

This session aims to educate and engage young minds by delivering messages from both the public and private sectors.

Additionally, the Department of Energy’s Digital Poster Making contest will provide an avenue for creative expression and highlight the significance of energy conservation.

SM has been at the forefront of investing in renewable energy, and this initiative further cements its commitment.

Currently, eight malls in the Philippines and three in China are equipped with solar panels, with plans to install more in the coming months.

Notably, SM has set an ambitious target of achieving 50 percent of its overall energy usage from renewable sources by the end of the year.

The “You Have the Power” Roadshow serves as just one facet of SM’s extensive efforts to promote sustainable living among Filipinos.

The company spearheads a range of environmental initiatives, including the Trash to Cash Recycling Market held monthly, the implementation of daily water recycling systems, and various campaigns such as the Green Film Festival, Green Retail Agenda, and the International Coastal Cleanup Drive.

By combining their resources and influence, SM and its partners are striving to create a greener and more environmentally conscious society.

Through these concerted efforts, SM is taking a proactive role in caring for the environment and inspiring others to follow suit.

The “You Have the Power” campaign underscores SM’s commitment to sustainable development and serves as a catalyst for positive change in energy conservation practices across the country.
