BAGUIO CITY — A crackdown on accommodation establishments in the city has resulted in 191 tourism establishments being flagged for violating business permit, occupancy tax, and tourist arrival data requirements.

The majority of these establishments were condominiums, transient houses, and apartments.

According to a statement released by the city’s public information office, a total of 190 establishments have been reported for their failure to submit tourist statistics data, while 155 establishments have not paid the required hotel room occupancy taxes, and 130 establishments have been found operating without proper business permits.

The campaign will continue with the involvement of the Permits and Licensing Division, City Treasury Office, and City Tourism and Special Events Division.

The crackdown was initiated by Mayor Benjamin Magalong to address the proliferation of non-compliant accommodation establishments that lack permits, fail to pay taxes, and neglect to provide tourist arrival data.

Such operations are deemed unfair to legitimate establishments and set a negative example.

The non-payment of taxes affects the city government, while the non-disclosure of tourist statistics hampers data gathering and developmental programs for the sector, the statement said.
